Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Premiere edition announced: What you need to know

General Motors has unveiled the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Premiere edition, saying it will start arriving at the dealers in early 2014.

The Premiere Edition Convertible will be one of the rarest Corvettes in the market and the company plans to release only 550 units of all top-of-the-line 3LT models. Customers who are thinking of buying the latest car will have to reserve it as soon as possible.

"We believe the Corvette represents the future of modern performance cars because it delivers more power, more driving excitement and better fuel efficiency," said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. "The result is better performance by every measure. The 2014 Corvette delivers the fastest acceleration, the most cornering grip, the most track capability, the best braking performance and what we expect to be the best fuel economy ever for a standard Corvette."

Owners of the limited edition 550 cars will also feel get a different feel in the vehicle as the automaker confirmed that the Stingray Premiere edition will have unique Lime Rock Green exteriors and Brownstone suede interiors, which is not found on regular Corvettes.

The Premiere edition of the car will feature unique wheels with "Stingray" logo center caps, Stingray sill plates and a five-piece set Corvette-branded luggage from Thule.

Chevrolet has tried to put a lot of features in the Corvette Stingray Premiere edition, which include performance exhaust system, the Z51 Performance Package, electronic limited-slip differential and Magnetic Selective Ride Control.

Each of the limited edition cars will have a dashboard plaque. Moreover, the limited edition has its own unique VIN sequence.

The performance of the Corvette Stingray Premiere edition remains unparalleled. A direct-injected, 6.2-liter V-8 engine generates 460 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. The car will be available in a seven-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.

The Corvette Stingray Premiered edition convertible will bear a base price tag of $77,450 (including destination fees), making it slightly more expensive than the 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe, which is available for $73,360.
