Say Hello To Huawei's Nova And Nova Plus: What's The Difference Between These Midrange Smartphones?

Huawei has announced two new midrange smartphones just ahead of the IFA 2016.

The Chinese smartphone maker has a number of mobile phones in the market but the company's press invite for its Sept. 1 event hinted at a new handset line. The new Huawei handset series has two devices: the Nova and Nova Plus, which have some similarities and differences in terms of hardware specs.

The Nova has a 5-inch Full HD screen while the Nova Plus touts a bigger 5.5-inch display. From the front, both the smartphones look similar, but users will find design changes when the phones are flipped over.

The round camera of the Nova is placed at one corner at the rear of the phone. Users will also find a circular fingerprint sensor that is conveniently located at the rear. On the other hand, the bigger Nova Plus is equipped with a square camera placed at the top center of the device. The camera module protrudes out of the rear, which means customers will not be able to lay it completely flat. It also has a fingerprint sensor, but it is square and positioned just below the camera.

The front-facing cameras of the Nova and Nova Plus have an 8-megapixel sensor. However, the Nova has a 12-megapixel primary camera as opposed to the 16-megapixel rear-facing camera found on the Nova Plus. The bigger Huawei phone also includes optical image stabilization (OIS), which is unfortunately not included in the smaller phone.

The cameras of both the Huawei phones have novel features such as eyeliner and lipstick effects, which suggests that these smartphones are more likely to attract female customers than male users.

The Nova has a 3,020 mAh battery, which is smaller than the 3,340 mAh battery that powers the Nova Plus. However, Huawei claims that the Nova's battery is sufficient to fuel the phone for two days in between charges.

Both the Nova and Nova Plus will include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, which is 40 percent faster than the Snapdragon 615 chipset. The two devices will come with 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage with the option to expand the storage capacity with a microSD card. Both the phones support USB Type-C.

The new smartphones will come running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow straight out of the box.

Although Huawei has now launched the Nova and Nova Plus, customers will have to wait until October for the devices to hit the shelves. In Europe, the Nova will have a price tag of 399 euro (about $444.94) while the Nova Plus will cost 429 euro (about $478.38).
