Skrillex tweeted out a message that strongly indicated that his live performing partnership with other Jack U member Diplo may be taking an extended break. The tweet, which has since been deleted, indicated the duo's recent festival performances are the last they'll be doing for "a long, long time," possibly giving them time to complete their long awaited sophomore album.
Summer is the busiest season for many EDM performers and DJ's, otherwise known as "festival season" to fans of the genre. Outdoor music extravaganzas occur all over the world, and the popularity of the huge marathon dance parties is at an all-time high in the United States.
Skrillex and Diplo took full advantage of their opportunities to perform to thousands of revelers at once by touring together under their collaborative moniker, capping off a massive year in which Jack U won two Grammy awards and hit the mainstream pop charts with their Justin Bieber collaboration, "Where Are U Now."
Festival fans may be singing "Where Is Jack U Now," however, after Skrillex' recent cryptic tweet, in which he stated:
"Just did out (sic) Last jack Ü festivals of 2016 ...and for a long long time. (hand emojis) thank you for all the people who came out to support us."
What the tweet exactly means, however, is unclear, and the fact that it was later deleted adds to the mystery. Since festival season doesn't start in most parts of the world until next summer, it could simply mean the two won't be appearing at any festivals until then. The tweet also doesn't exclude the possibility of the duo performing at other venues meanwhile.
Skrillex and Diplo, however, are arguably at the peak of their careers and in high demand individually, buoyed further by their recent success in working together. Each is a highly in demand producer in his own right, with Skrillex having produced much of Justin Bieber's blockbuster "Purpose" album, including number one singles "Sorry" and "What Do You Mean," and Diplo producing hit tunes for pop stars like Britney Spears, Madonna, and most recently, two tracks on Beyoncé's "Lemonade".
One thing's for sure — Jack U will continue to produce new music in the studio, as they have reportedly been working on collaborations with various artists such as Big Sean, Rae Sremmurd, MØ and Lil Dicky for their upcoming new album. They most recently Snapchatted teasers of a new song with vocals by Florence Welch of Florence And The Machine, subsequently posted on Welch's Twitter account.
So while the question may remain as to when Jack U will perform live together again, fans can take heart in the confirmation of brand new recorded music on the way soon from Skrillex and Diplo. Hopefully it will come in the form of their new album, which Diplo himself has repeatedly hinted will be released in 2016.
