Samsung wants to change the game with two new curved monitors targeted at gamers, aiming to deliver a truly immersive gaming experience thanks to quantum dot technology.
The company will formally showcase the new CFG70 and CF791 curved PC gaming monitors at IFA 2016 later this week, boasting the same quantum dot technology that made Samsung UHD TVs so popular.
The CFG70 comes in two sizes — either 24 or 27 inches, while the ultra-wide CF791 is a gorgeous 34-inch beast. As the first curved quantum dot gaming monitors, the CFG70 and CF791 promise to deliver amazing colors across a wide sRGB spectrum of 125 percent, while also sporting a cadmium-free design so they're safe for the environment.
Thanks to the great luminance of these new curved quantum dot monitors, gamers will be able to enjoy more game details in both dark and light settings, which would otherwise be hidden. According to Samsung, the monitors deliver "unprecedented visual realism."
"By enhancing our pioneering curved gaming monitors with quantum dot technology, our CFG70 and CF791 displays further surround players and make them feel as if they are part of the game," says Seog-gi Kim, Samsung Electronics' senior vice president of Visual Display Business.
"Incorporating the same quantum dot technology found in our incredible TV lineup, the CFG70 and CF791 monitors are poised to deliver the most realistic experience for gamers and consumers alike," adds Andrew Sivori, vice president of Consumer IT Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. "In addition, we've bolstered color accuracy, refined the display curvature and significantly reduced MPRT (Moving Picture/Pattern Response Time)."
The CFG70 will have a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution for both the 24-inch and the 27-inch models, and will also boast other features to further enhance the experience. It has a blue LED light underneath the display, illuminating the gaming peripherals and flickering in sync with the game being played so the players feel they're in the game.
Moreover, the CFG70 also comes with Samsung's Gaming UX OSD interface, complete with an intuitive on-screen dashboard so that players can easily access all essential settings during competitions. The monitor also has shortcut hot keys on both its front and back, further allowing gamers to adjust gameplay settings with ease.
The 34-inch CF791, meanwhile, rocks a crisper resolution of 3,440 x 1,440 pixels with a 21:9 aspect ratio. Both the CFG70 and CF791 feature AMD's FreeSync Technology, which syncs up the monitors' refresh rate with the rig's AMD Radeon graphics card if installed.
When it comes to pricing details, Samsung didn't reveal just how much its new curved gaming monitors will cost, but Slashgear reports that the 24-inch model will cost $399, the 27-inch version will go up to $499, while the 34-inch model will sell at $999.
Samsung will be showcasing the CFG70 and CF791 on Sept. 1 at the IFA, inside the City Cube Hall of the Messe Berlin event center.
