Apple Watch 2 To Sport 35 Percent Larger Battery According To Leaked Images

A new report claims that Apple will address one of the biggest criticisms of its Apple Watch when it launches its successor in a few weeks. Images of what are reportedly the battery for the 42mm Apple Watch 2 show it will be 35 percent larger.

Apple should be sending out press invites any day now to announce its iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus and Apple Watch 2 press event. The date is expected to be Sept. 7, according to recent reports, with preorders for all of the new devices announced kicking off on Sept. 9.

If a just released report is to be believed, iPhone fans may face short supplies of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus when they are released. Like every new iPhone release, Apple is believed to have greatly improved the rear cameras that will be packed into the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. The smaller iPhone 7 will reportedly include a 12-megapixel rear camera and finally gain OIS (optical image stabilization), a feature that has previously been reserved for the larger Plus models. The iPhone 7 Plus is expected to pack in a dual lens 12-megapixel rear camera.

Apple is also expected to debut new accessories alongside the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The company is removing the standard 3.5mm headphone port for the new iPhones and is expected to release new Lightning EarPods to allow users to listen to audio through the single Lightning port and is rumored to introduce wireless AirPods for users who don't want to be tangled in cords.

The most anticipated accessory Apple is believed to launch is its follow up to the original Apple Watch, in the form of the Apple Watch 2. The new smartwatch is expected to feature the same overall design as the original Apple Watch but gain improved internals, including a GPS chip that will allow for enhanced fitness tracking and navigation, according to a recent report.

Now, a new report claims that Apple will considerably improve battery life on the Apple Watch 2, something the first generation was criticized for, since it could not get through more than a day of use. The 42mm Apple Watch packed in a 246 mAh battery and provided up to 18 hours of battery life on a charge. New images of what is reportedly the lithium-ion battery that will power the 42mm Apple Watch show it comes in at 334 mAh, which is about 35.7 percent larger than the original's battery.

This isn't surprising, considering Apple puts major focus on providing longer lasting battery life on next-generation iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It will be interesting to see how much more time this new battery adds to the Apple Watch 2. We'll keep you posted on any new Apple Watch 2 news as its released.
