Game of Thrones has inspired a lot of people to embark upon artistic pursuits. The show's rich lore and mature fantasy has given way to countless beautiful pieces of fan art since its premiere, and followers across the world have dedicated their time and effort to honoring the series and the novels it comes from in a myriad of unique ways.
While there are hundreds upon hundreds of amazing pieces of art, this animation may be the most beautiful among them. From the French animation studio BlackMeal, "Game of Thrones, an animated adventure" summarizes the first four seasons of HBO's epic, and it is absolutely amazing to watch.
There's a lot of material to cover within the first four seasons of Game of Thrones, and trying to fit all of that in just over a minute of animation is nearly impossible. Even so, the end result is stunning: each scene transitions seamlessly into the next, and the animation is almost like watching a tapestry in motion. It's a reminder that, while the show can be extremely brutal and hard-to-watch, it can be incredibly powerful as well.
While there are some pretty hefty spoilers for the show, non-fans need not worry. Avid watchers will know exactly what's going on based on what they've already seen, but without more context, it's hard to really put together much of a narrative. Basically, don't worry if you haven't caught up to the show - just go ahead watch the video.
Currently, the fifth season of Game of Thrones is in the middle of production, with an expected debut scheduled for sometime next spring.
BlackMeal, the studio behind the animation, has an amazing library of other animations. There may not be any other Game of Thrones shorts, but that doesn't mean there's nothing else worth watching. Some of the work that the studio has also released is just as stunning, and you can watch it from either BlackMeal's Vimeo page or the official site.
