A week after it posted images of a Bluetooth-enabled headset on its online store, Samsung has finally come out and officially launched the new product, along with details regarding its features and pricing. Meet the Level Active.
Confirming prior speculations, Samsung specified that the Level Active was designed for people on the move — outdoor activities and exercise. According to the company, the soft silicon in-ear eartips (earhooks), together with the wingtips, help achieve a comfortable fit while ensuring that the headset stays firmly in place. Further stressing its point on a comfortable fit and better sound quality for each individual, the Level Active will have the silicon earhooks to come in three different sizes.
"With the release of Level Active, people who want to enjoy their favorite tracks while working out have an option that's hassle-free and ready to move," says Samsung. "Whether someone is a serious runner, a gym rat, or just looking to get a bit healthier, the Level Active fits any level of activity and helps make working out a bit more fun."
In order to prevent damage from sweat and other fluids, Samsung designed the Level Active to be splash-resistant. Making this possible is the ultra-thin P2i nano-coating that covers the innards of the headset.
To connect to a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone, users will need to hold the controller's Bluetooth button and wait for the blue light to flash from the left earpiece. This signals that the Level Active and the phone are connected and enables the controller to perform the basic play/pause function, volume control and track selection.
Samsung promises more functionality once the Level Active gets paired with the Samsung Level app. Using the app allows users to customize notifications and limit the prompts to calls and alarms for an uninterrupted routine.
The Level app makes it possible for users to monitor their workout using the Active key function. When turned on, Active key allows the user to feed clock, timer and S Health functions to the Level Active headset. Note that S Health enables one to record statistics for activities such as hiking, running, cycling and walking. These recorded statistics can be played back by pressing the Active Key on the Level Active's right earpiece.
It's worth mentioning that when running out of juice, the Level Active can be charged using a microUSB connector.
Samsung's Level Active is now available in the U.S. for $99. The company also announced that releases for Korea, Europe, Turkey, Russia, China and other countries are soon to come. Samsung also released a number of other products on Aug. 19, including the Galaxy Note 7, Gear VR, Gear 360, Gear IconX and more.
