4.7-Inch iPhone 7 May Not Get Dual-Lens Camera, But Optical Image Stabilization Is Reportedly In Tow

The smaller model of Apple's next iPhone may have a camera treat in tow, as the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will reportedly get optical image stabilization.

High-end smartphones have been rocking optical image stabilization (OIS) for a good while now, although the technology is yet to become a norm. Apple joined the bandwagon with its iPhone 6 series, but only for the larger model.

While the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus got OIS, the 4.7-inch model did not get the treat. The subsequent iPhone 6s series got the same treatment — the 5.5-inch version had OIS, the 4.7-inch one did not.

It may finally be time for Apple to extend the OIS courtesy to the 4.7-inch model as well, as the smaller of the upcoming iPhone 7 smartphones will reportedly rock OIS at last. The news comes from trustworthy site NoWhereElse.fr, which has leaked accurate information on several occasions so far.

OIS is designed to compensate for the micro-movements of the user's hands and help record smooth videos without shaking. The technology also helps deliver sharper photos in low-light scenarios, when the camera gets more sensitive to motion.

That said, while the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will reportedly get OIS, its camera will still not be on par with that of the larger model. The 5.5-inch iPhone 7 is expected to rock a dual-lens camera, albeit it remains unclear at this point just how Apple will implement the system. It could be designed for more depth or more width, but it remains to be seen.

Several other notable enhancements have been rumored so far for the next-generation iPhone 7 smartphones, including a redesigned case with antenna bands at the top and bottom edges instead of crossing the back of the handset, improved fast-charging technology, a more powerful A10 processor, more RAM, 256 GB storage configurations, and more. At the same time, Apple is also rumored to remove the headphone jack from the iPhone 7 line, which may frustrate some users.

As always, however, it's best to take all leaks and rumors with a hefty grain of salt until the formal unveiling. Apple should take the wraps off its new iPhone 7 generation next month, so we'll soon get the official scoop straight from the source. We'll keep you posted as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
