Here's an offer players won't want to refuse: download this free-to-play mobile strategy game based on one of the most iconic movies of all time, The Godfather.
Mobile app developer Hitcents announced on Thursday that it is currently working on a title that will allow players to take on the role as Vito Corleone aka the Don's key adviser and start an empire in the quest to become the most deadly and dominant crime family around.
Under license from Paramount Pictures, this marks the first time the classic film comes to the world of mobile.
"The Godfather is one of the most iconic film franchises of all time and has maintained its cool factor for over 40 years," LeeAnne Stables, President of Worldwide Marketing Partnership and Licensing for Paramount Pictures, said in a press release. "With this fun new game, Hitcents brings the lifestyle and characters from these amazing films to Godfather fans right onto their mobile devices."
Released in 1972, the film directed by Francis Ford Coppola stars Marlon Brando and Al Pacino and tells the story of an aging leader of a crime empire that gives his reluctant son all of his power. The film's trilogy won Academy Awards, including "Best Picture" for the first installment and its sequel.
The Godfather game can best be described as a real-time strategy game that also features RPG customization. The player must rise to the top of the seedy underworld of the mob life to create and develop relationships and estates that will result in a loyal following of minions willing to do anything for you, as well as a steady cash flow to make you rich.
That includes making deals to earn cash and expanding properties to create an empire. There may even be a fight or two when it comes to having to protect the family against rivals so get ready to "say hello to my little friend" (yes, wrong Pacino gangster movie, but couldn't help ourselves).
Just like the movie, The Godfather is set in the post-prohibition era in New York. The player begins the journey as a foot soldier for the Corleone family and can rise up to be one of the Don's most trusted allies.
While the game is still currently in development, it is in good hands at Hitcents, which are the creators behind Draw a Stickman: Epic and Hanx Writer and the winners of five Webby Awards.
The Godfather mobile game will be available for iOS, Android and Amazon Kindle Fire tablets in the near future.
