HTC is now releasing the Vive with a new set of free games as part of the SteamVR bundle in a bid to "keep things interesting and fresh" and perhaps to make the VR headset more appealing to more customers.
What's going to happen is that Fantastic Contraption and Job Simulator are going out of the picture, and taking their places are The Gallery - Episode 1: Call of the Starseed and Zombie Training Simulator. That's right, folks — Tilt Brush is sticking around.
Just to be clear on that, anyone who purchases the Vive will get download codes for the new lineup moving forward starting now.
To get a good idea of what's in store, here are the trailers for the new games:
The Gallery - Episode 1: Call of the Starseed
Developer: Cloudhead Games
Price: $29.99
Inspired by fantasy films of the '80s, The Gallery is a retro-ish adventure that involves a deep narrative and numerous puzzles to solve. It's arguably one of the most well-made VR games to date, not to mention that it demonstrates the potential of the technology in the gaming scene.
Zombie Training Simulator
Developer: Acceleroto
Price: $19.99
Need training for the inevitable zombie apocalypse? Well, everyone probably does, and what better place to do just that than in a VR space. With a pretty straightforward name, Zombie Training Simulator is the key and the Vive is the tool that'll help anyone get ready for the arrival of the undead.
From the look of things on the trailer, it's kind of like a shooter where hundreds of cardboard zombies are going to come after the player, so don't expect a horror game the likes of Resident Evil 7, which got 7 million downloads for the demo version.
Tilt Brush
Developer: Google
Price: $29.99
Tilt Brush is the perfect VR app for painters, but that doesn't necessarily mean that any average Joes or plain Janes won't get a kick out of it. For a short description of what it brings to the table, it sets the player in a room that becomes their canvas, where they are free to release their inner creativity and draw everything under the sun.
Now that the list is all wrapped up, it should be mentioned that it's unclear whether or not current owners of the Vive can nab the two additions, but it seems that HTC is only bundling them together with newly bought models.
"We're happy to announce that there will be an update to the SteamVR content bundle that comes with each Vive purchase, so customers buying Vive today have something new to check out on day one," HTC says.
