'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' Trailer Launches During Olympics And Guess What, Darth Vader Returns [Video]

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, one of the spin-off movies from the epic universe of Han Solo and Darth Vader, finally got a proper trailer.

Sci-fi geeks could watch the 2:15-minute long video during the Olympics coverage on the night of Aug. 11, and it was totally worth the wait.

A previous teaser for the upcoming movie rolled out earlier this year in London, during the official Lucasfilm conference Star Wars Celebration. Luckily for fans of the series, the new trailer packs entirely all-new footage — and detailed aspects the teaser did not even graze.

Fair warning: there will be spoilers ahead, as we are about to tell you what's in the trailer.

Darth Vader makes his first appearance on-screen after the painstaking recovery procedure from Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and fans should know the voice of the greatest galactic villain belongs to James Earl Jones.

While Star Wars Celebration hinted at the Dark Lord's presence by showing his helmet in reflection, here we get a generous shot of Vader from behind, albeit it lasts just for a second.

Next in line, we get to see Saw Gerrera played by none other than Forest Whitaker. Gerrera is an odd rebel character most fans recognize from the animated Clone Wars series. In an ironic choice of words, the trailer opens with Gerrera uttering "The world is coming undone." Everyone who watched the news in 2016 can find it strangely accurate and foreboding.

The trailer also takes the time to introduce great shots of the various spacecraft from the universe, featuring TIE fighters, Star Destroyers and the still-under-development Death Star.

However, the team behind Rogue One takes time to showcase every aerial vehicle from unexpected angles. The Destroyers and the Death Star are unbelievably close to the planetary surface, while the TIE gets into a close encounter with the main protagonist, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones).

In the new cinematic, we get to meet figures such as freelance assassin Baze Malbus (Jiang Wen) and intelligence officer Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). An AI companion is introduced in the form of K-2SO, which looks like a mélange of multiple robots from the series.

Last but not the least, spiritual warrior Chirrut Îmwe (Donnie Yen) is a charismatic and mysterious character that the gang meets in Jedha, where he is casually falling Imperial guards.

Îmwe, who is fearless, according to his own description, mentions the Force and its inherent will.

Those who are shaking in anticipation, keep in mind that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens Dec. 16. Meanwhile, check out the awesome trailer below.
