The Pokémon Company dropped a bombshell on fans earlier this month when it posted its latest trailer, revealing new Pokémon, Alola forms of Gen I creatures and an assortment of new mechanics. Now, several days later, it looks like CoroCoro is poised to do the same in its latest feature about the upcoming 3DS games Sun and Moon.
Just like it has fortunately started to do as of late, CoroCoro has revealed new information about the latest Pokémon, more so now that the Pokémon Company has officially unveiled Alola forms for some of the original Pokémon. CoroCoro has doubled down on that by revealing a few Alola forms of its own.
Here is the complete article, courtesy of Serebii:
To start, the new Pokémon revealed in this issue are Sunabaa and Shirodesuna, as well as Yowashi and Nuikoguma.
Sunabaa is a Ghost/Ground type Pokémon whose name is a riff on the Japanese word for sandbox, sunaba. Upon evolving, it changes into yet another Ghost/Ground type named Shirodesuna, whose name can literally mean "a castle of sand" in Japanese. As you can see from the illustrations, both Pokémon are yet another species that is the product of the possession of an inanimate object, joining the likes of Klefki and Litwek/Lampent/Chandelure as Pokémon that appear loosely inspired by tsukumogami.
Meanwhile, Yowashi is a Water-type fish Pokémon that has the ability to change its form from a single fish to a school of fish, and then, there's Nuikoguma, who is the pre-evolved form of Bewear and is also Normal/Fighting.
CoroCoro's latest issue also revealed two new Alola forms for Meowth and Marowak.
Alolan Meowth ditches its Normal type and becomes a Dark type. Similarly, due to this type change, it ditches its white and brown fur coat in favor of a gray and white one (where white is used for the paws and extremities of the tail). Meanwhile, Alolan Marowak ditches its Ground type to become a Fire/Ghost type.
Just like with Sandshrew/Sandslash and Vulpix/Ninetails, both of these new Alolan forms are quite cool. However, Marowak is quite interesting, as the first time a player comes across one in Red/Blue/Yellow, it is actually the ghost of a Marowak that has died at the hands of Team Rocket.
Lastly, this feature came with something to look forward to in the future. In next month's issue, CoroCoro will have a poster featuring what is described as Rockruff's "Secret Evolution."
