Prisma Update Adds Cool New Filter Blending And Picture Cropping Skills, Plus A Boost In Performance

Currently, Prisma seems to be the blue-eyed boy of photo editing apps as wannabe Van Goghs or Picassos use its abilities to enhance their selfies and convert them into something more artistic.

The developer has now pushed out a new update that brings several new features to the app deploying AI intelligence. What are these new features you ask? Here they are:

Cropping Image Support

The latest version of the Prisma app, which was pushed out for both Android and iOS on Aug. 4, now lets users crop the images. That is not all, users can even rotate them!

Users can tinker with the selected image before applying the style of art. By sliding the image around, users can do a basic crop. They can also pinch and zoom to get the desired portion of the image.

Filter Blending

Cropping abilities aside, the update also brings the option of controlling the blend between the filtered and original images. Thanks to the new filter blending, users can adjust the blending levels with ease.

Image Rotation

The update also brings support for image rotation. Users can turn the image around 90 degrees in any direction. To rotate an image, one simply needs to tap the arrows below the "Crop photo" screen.

Performance Boost

Another feature that will excite Prisma users is that the app is snappier. Yes, it has received a performance boost and now functions pretty quickly. One no longer needs to wait indefinitely — like the early stages when the servers were congested due to the app's popularity — and will receive instant feedback from Prisma. This is a major brownie point for the app and will have people using it more frequently.

The fact that Prisma is more responsive and faster is a welcome change. However, whether this change is due to software optimization or a boost to the server is not known.

Split Effect

The update also brings a new split effect as reflected by an Instagram post from Prisma Labs. However, judging by the post this is not available for Android users yet.

This is not the first time Prisma has received an update. Earlier in July, Prisma Labs pushed out the first-ever update for its photo editing app that brought in its folds a much-needed feature — the save button. Prior to the update, users could only Share the edited image to various other apps and had no means of saving the "artwork" to their device. However, the arrival of the save button resolved this issue.

Prisma Labs is also said to be working on video support for the app, so we could soon see the feature arrive in a future update. Fans of the app are also hoping that forthcoming updates will bring support for custom filters and introduce video filters as well as video editing options.

Folks can now download the updated Prisma app for iOS or Android and take advantage of the new features.
