iPhone 7 May Come With 3 GB Of RAM: Supply Chain Sources

Rumors of Apple's next-gen smartphone have been doing the rounds for several months. The latest one from the iPhone 7's supply chain sources suggests that the handset will come with 3 GB of RAM.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus in September this year. The devices are rumored to pack in top-end features that would attract millions of iFans. A DigiTimes report now cites sources in the supply chain and suggests that the iPhone 7 will have 3 GB of RAM.

"The mobile DRAM capacity of the next-generation iPhone is expected to increase to 3GB from 2GB previously," says DigiTimes.

Of course, the report cannot be taken as confirmation, but the publication has ties with smartphone and tablet supply chains. In the past, DigiTimes has also correctly reported some specs of unannounced mobile devices.

It is worth noting that the iPhone 5 and 5s had just 1 GB of RAM and the iPhone 6 and 6s came with 2 GB of RAM. Apple may very well be planning to give the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus a bumped up RAM, especially considering that some smartphones already moved to a whopping 6 GB of RAM.

According to trusted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, the 5.5-inch iPhone, or the iPhone 7 Plus, will get 3 GB of RAM. But the analyst suggests that the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 will still be powered by 2 GB of RAM. Kuo says that Apple may use its next-gen A10 chip in both the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

The DigiTimes report does not state any other estimated specs of Apple's next flagship smartphones. However, previous reports have hinted that the devices will have a dual-camera setup.

Apple iPhones have some of the best specs needed in high-end devices. However, the available iPhones are not waterproof, which is concerning for iFans using the mobile phone outdoors. A previous Tech Times report suggests that the iPhone 7 Plus will be water-resistant. The upcoming iPhones may also feature wireless charging capabilities to bring them on par with rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy S7.

Other reports also speculate that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus may not have the standard 3.5-mm audio jack at all, as Apple is planning to launch wireless EarPods to go with the devices.

Apple has not revealed any detail about the iPhone 7 yet, but speculations are rife that the company will launch the next iPhones sometime in September. Specifically, the devices may hit the shelves on Sept. 16. iFans will have to wait until Apple officially confirms a launch date for one of the most anticipated smartphones of this year.
