GoPro expands in-store retail presence at 500 Best Buy branches

GoPro is rolling out new displays in 500 Best Buy stores. The move is expected to triple GoPro's in-store presence at the world's largest specialty consumer electronics retailer.

Along with the expansion, the company also announced the release of the much-awaited Hero4 camera, which will also be available on BestBuy.com and in Best Buy physical stores starting Oct. 5. The new camera will be the focal point of the company's in-store expansion.

The expansion marks the company's biggest display venture, which will retail products exclusively at Best Buy. Upgraded display units are designed to create a more immersive in-store viewing experience for the customers. GoPro hopes to convey the unique value of the products. Customers will be greeted with new fixtures that are at least six feet tall to capture shoppers' attention. The stores will also be equipped with larger monitors, which may be used to display GoPro's own award-winning video productions.

"This expansion will provide GoPro with a significant increase in shelf space from one of our biggest retail partners in North America," said Jonathan Harris, GoPro senior vice president of intergalactic sales. "We're excited to offer our customers a more compelling experience at most Best Buy locations each time they interact with our products in the store."

The new stores will be a great avenue to showcase the company's new line of Hero participant-sports-oriented video cameras. These would be the entry-level Hero ($129), the Hero4 Silver ($399) and the Hero4 Black ($499). All of these are waterproof and can be submerged at up to 131 feet.

GoPro said all of their cameras will receive upgrades in audio recording and low-light capture. There will also be a number of new accessories that will be introduced in the market, which would include a remote-controlled device for the Silver and Black models purported to work even at a distance of 600 feet. GoPro is even attempting to broaden the appeal of its mid-range products by adding a touchscreen feature for the first time at the back of the camera. Users often have to connect their GoPro cameras to smartphones when they need to run a program.

The new GoPro displays will arrive just in time for the upcoming holiday season. Best Buy has been GoPro's retail partner since 2010.
