Samsung Is Working On Wireless Chargers: 3 New Designs Surface On Patents

Samsung has filed a patent, which shows that the company is working on three new wireless charger designs.

Smartphones have to be charged on a regular basis. Most of the customers charge their mobile devices with a cable connected to a wall socket. However, wireless chargers offer a convenient, safe and reliable way of charging devices.

Many mobile phones are capable of wireless charging and there are various wireless chargers available in the market.

Samsung already has a number of phones such as Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and more that can be charged wirelessly. The Korean company also has a Wireless Charging Pad that can charge mobile phones.

"With this stylish accessory, you can charge your compatible Galaxy smartphones, and other Qi-compatible devices, without the need to plug your device into a wall charger or USB port. Simply place your device directly onto the charging pad and your phone begins to charge," says Samsung.

According to a patent filed by Samsung in January, the three wireless chargers in development will be able to charge not only mobile phones but also smartwatches.

Samsung's existing wireless charging pad is flat. However, the new designs revealed on the patent application suggest that all three designs are taller. Customers will have the option to wireless charge two devices, one smartphone and a smartwatch, simultaneously.

The patent also mentions that the wireless charger will be able to charge an array of devices such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, smartwatches, electronic glasses and other wearables.

Wireless chargers can be useful for customers who want hassle-free charging of their mobile phones. However, it is worth noting that it can take more time to charge a device wirelessly than it takes to charge a phone when plugged in.

According to Samsung, wired charging of Galaxy S6 edge can take 85 minutes. However, the same phone will need about 180 minutes to charge wirelessly.

"Wireless charging also offers significant improvements in speed. While the Galaxy S6 edge required 180 minutes to fully charge wirelessly, the Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5 need only 120 minutes (one hour less) using Samsung's new wireless charging pad," says Samsung.

Samsung has confirmed an event for Aug. 2, wherein the company will launch the highly anticipated Galaxy Note 7. Customers will hope that the company launches a new phablet along with a fresh wireless charger.

Companies like Samsung make a number of patent applications each year. However, it is not necessary that all patents are used in products. It remains to be seen if Samsung launches new wireless chargers based on the patent application.
