Injustice 2 made its debut earlier this summer at E3, revealing a number of the DC Comics superheroes and villains that players will be able to fight as in the upcoming game, including Batman, Gorilla Grodd and Supergirl. Now, at the official Injustice panel at San Diego Comic-Con, developer NetherRealm has revealed two more characters who will be be joining the fray: Blue Beetle and Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman is hardly a surprise. She appeared in the first game as a staunch supporter of Superman, and she'll be returning for the sequel. Creative director Ed Boon says it was important to unveil Wonder Woman at the show, since 2016 marks the character's 75th anniversary. It looks like she'll be sporting a new look for the sequel as well.
More surprising was the announcement of Blue Beetle. The character recently won a poll on Twitter posted by Boon, and the character is now officially confirmed. This will be the younger Jaime Reyes Blue Beetle, and his futuristic scarab armor looks right at home in the Injustice version of the DC Universe. Those in attendance at the panel got to see footage of Blue Beetle and Wonder Woman face off, and it seems clear that Reyes' teenage charm comes through in his mid-fight banter.
Boon says fans can expect plenty more announcements like Blue Beetle, as the developers are looking to add more obscure DC Comic heroes to the game's roster. He even hinted that members of the Suicide Squad may make an appearance, though he wouldn't say exactly which characters. Boon says fan demand for Red Hood is also incredibly high, so it seems like a safe bet that the gun-toting vigilante will make his way into the game.
This was the first Injustice panel at Comic-Con, with the first game not receiving one. In addition to news on the new video game, there were also announcements in regards to the popular Injustice comic series. While the original Injustice series will be ending soon, it was confirmed that there will be an Injustice 2 comic, and original Injustice comic writer Tom Taylor will be authoring it.
Injustice 2 is scheduled to release for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2017. The game will feature an equipment system where players can upgrade and customize the look of each individual character.
