Acer recently rolled out its Jade Primo, a Windows 10 carrying smartphone, and U.S. customers can get it at the Microsoft Store.
Seeing how Windows 10 Mobile handset launches are rare events, each one deserves a special note and the Jade Primo is no exception. The phone was announced at this year's CES and hit European shelves in April.
Now, Acer's first and only high-end Windows 10 Mobile smartphone has finally reached the US market. Those interested can pick it up at the Microsoft Store, unlocked. What is more, Acer fans who want to tap into the productivity tools rendered by Windows 10 Mobile can get a full package to turn their handset into a PC.
A first glance at the technical specs of the Acer Liquid Jade Primo could leave most users unimpressed. The device relies on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor backed by 3 GB of RAM for processing power. As a reminder, the Snapdragon 808 choice aimed to avoid controversy surrounding the Snapdragon 810, which had a bad history of overheating.
The standard storage capacity is 32 GB, but the microSD memory slot allows expansion of up to 128 GB. The screen is a 5.5-inch Full HD that delivers 1,920 x 1,080p resolutions.
The camera combo features a 21-megapixel main sensor and a front facing selfie-snapper in the form of an 8-megapixel sensor. The phone also features a dual SIM slot and a 2,870 mAh non-removable Li-polymer battery. The price tag of the device is $649, which most would call over the top just by looking at the specs.
It should be noted that, when compared with the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, Acer's Jade Primo brings all that is needed for Continuum right off the bat. This means that for the $649, the phone also comes with the desktop dock, a mouse and a keyboard to boot.
By packaging its smartphone with peripherals, Acer caters to the needs of those that want an integrated solution for mobile and desktop productivity.
Some might be skeptical about the full-on power of Continuum for Mobile at this state, but the accessorized phone could prove entirely surprising.
In the Jade Primo, Acer stays true to its "hairline" design, which could appeal to some more than others. The horizontal brush strokes might seem a bit on the cheap side, but at least the design of the docking station is in tune with the phones.
Windows 10 Mobile fans might want to give the Jade Primo a chance, as $649 for a top-tier smartphone, a keyboard, a mouse and a docking station is nothing to scoff at.
