Good news for all Pokémon GO players located in the U.S., UK, Canada and Australia, Ripley's is currently hosting an event limited to these locations.
Of course, we're pretty sure everyone's stumbled upon the term Pokémon GO and if not, well, just in case you find a person standing in the middle of a busy highway, Pokémon GO's the likely cause. It's this new mobile game available on most mobile devices (depending on the location) and features creatures that happen to be called Pokémon.
In this game, Pokémons are located in real-time places in the world, be it in Central Park or all the way down under in Sydney Opera House, and people are tasked to collect these Pokémon via their smartphones. This is why you've probably been seeing a group of individuals or just the one walking around aimlessly without a care for their surroundings.
It's stupid dangerous but it's also stupid fun and... highly profitable, apparently.
Companies around the world have been jumping in on the Pokémon GO craze as well since the game garners a crazy amount of traffic every day, meaning more visibility for their brands. These usually range from network offers to prized events such as Ripley's own, referred to as Ripley's Go.
As mentioned above, Pokémon GO players will have a chance of winning of $5,000 if they catch the rarest Pokémon they can find in any one of Ripley's Aquariums, Odditoriums and other attractions located in these countries; you'll most likely remember Ripley's as the show, "Ripley's Believe It or Not!"
To join the event, players will have to take a screenshot of them catching the Pokémon in AR mode with a "recognizable element of the location." Once this is done, players may simply upload the screenshot to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag, #RipleysGo.
Qualifying players must be at least 13 years old and should have a valid address and working telephone number. Unfortunately, those who currently and previously worked at Ripley's "and their immediate family members and persons living in their same household" are restricted from the game.
The Ripley's Go contest will run from July 14 to July 25. It is important to note too that there is no limit to a number of entrees players will send to the company, though Ripley's will own these screenshots once sent — no, the company won't steal your beloved Pokémon, just claim the screenshots.
At the end of the event, the winner will be picked based on a provided Pokémon chart categorized according to rarity. In the event of a tie, the first person to upload the screenshot will win the $5,000.
The full terms and conditions may be accessed through the Ripley's Go contest rules.
