Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge No Longer Eligible For Sprint 'Galaxy Forever' Upgrade Program

Sprint's attractive "Galaxy Forever" promotion is no longer applicable to the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, albeit the reasons behind this decision remain unknown.

For those unfamiliar with the program, Galaxy Forever is virtually the equivalent of the iPhone Forever program, but for Samsung Galaxy smartphones. It allows Sprint customers to buy a new Samsung phone and upgrade after one year of monthly lease payments, with no upgrade fees.

The promo is a great opportunity for many Galaxy fans who always want the latest and greatest, allowing them to upgrade yearly to the newer generation.

The high-end Samsung Galaxy S7 edge used to be part of this cool Galaxy Forever, but the key phrase here is "used to." Fierce Wireless has confirmed with multiple Sprint stores that the carrier is no longer offering the lease deal for the Galaxy S7 edge, although it still seems to be available for the Galaxy S7.

As a reminder, the Galaxy S7 edge is a tad more expensive than the Galaxy S7, as it offers more advanced features thanks to its cool dual-edge display.

It remains unclear just why Sprint quietly killed off the Galaxy Forever option for the Galaxy S7 edge, as the carrier has yet to make any comment or announcement in this regard.

Several reasons, however, could lead to such a decision. The program may have failed to attract many customers, or it may have cost Sprint too much, considering that the market for used Android smartphones is not as good as that for used iPhones.

Either way, it seems you can no longer lease a Galaxy S7 edge from Sprint. While the Galaxy S7 is still available with the Galaxy Forever option, it remains unclear whether Sprint eventually plans to shut down the program altogether.

At the same time, it also remains unclear how things will pan out for those who have already purchased a Galaxy S7 edge through the program.

The iPhone Forever program, meanwhile, is reportedly going strong still, albeit iOS fans don't have too many smartphone choices.

We're still waiting for an official statement from Sprint before making anything of this, and the carrier should offer at least some explanation soon enough.

As a reminder, Sprint announced the Galaxy Forever program back in February and launched it in March as a means to facilitate upgrading to the latest flagship. The Galaxy Forever FAQ page shows it was last updated on June 23, but makes no mention of the Galaxy S7 edge's removal from the program.

As always, we'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more.
