Report: WSJ Says iPhone 7 To Start At 32 GB Of Base Storage

The latest Apple speculation about the iPhone 7 from the rumor mill reaffirms what recent leaks have been suggesting.

Tech Times previously reported on the upcoming phone (or phone variants: normal, plus and pro) and its upgraded storage from the current 16 GB. Purportedly, the next generation of iPhones will showcase three models that carry standardized 32 GB minimum internal memory across all versions.

To specify, the entry-level iPhone 7 will come in 32, 64 and 256 GB variants, the iPhone 7 "Plus" will come in 32, 128 and 256 GB variants, while the iPhone 7 "Pro" will come in 32, 128 and 256 GB versions.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports that a credible source — which it refers to only as "a person familiar with Apple's iPhone plans" — gave exclusive information to conclude that the Cupertino-based company will presumably push through with an updated storage space for its upcoming flagships.

While still unconfirmed by Apple, the fact that a major (and trusted) publication house has backed up rumors regarding the upcoming iPhone's storage specs gives us more reason to believe that the age of 16 GB Apple smartphones is finally coming to an end. (Good riddance!)

The very limited entry-level model to iPhone 6/6s can only provide as much space as it can that eventually, users will be forced at some point to say goodbye to some of their favorite apps or delete those timeless photos. WSJ even writes that the 16 GB model option only serves as some sort of "ploy" or marketing strategy to make people opt for the 64 GB version instead, about $100 higher than the 16 GB model.

All eyes are on Apple now as September finally approaches.

If past, recurring announcements are any indication of how the company rolls out new devices to the public, Apple might just be finally setting all rumors to rest in about two more months when it formally unveils the next generation of its iPhone devices. (Read: Sept. 12, 2012 for iPhone 5, Sept. 10, 2013 for iPhone 5s, Sept. 9, 2014 for iPhone 6 and Sept. 9, 2015 for iPhone 6s)

To recap these rumors, in addition to an upgraded base storage capacity: the 3.5mm headphone port will be removed; a "Force Touch" home button will replace the currently pushable home button; larger and dual cameras variants; no major overhauls in overall design; and finally, what we all really need, what iPhone 7's formal namesake will be.
