Despite the studio's best efforts to prevent them, set leaks are extremely common nowadays. If there's any one production that's been victimized the most, it's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The film has been the subject of leaks since the moment filming began, with rabid fans desperately trying to find any tiny nugget of information or snapping a photo of something new. The set is under constant guard, but even then, unauthorized photos continue to emerge.
It's no surprise that, given the number of gadgets he uses, Batman is the subject of most of the leaks. It was only a matter of time before someone caught a glimpse of the Batmobile or Wayne Manor, but there's been a surprising lack of leaks concerning Superman. Yes, he uses less in terms of physical gadgets, but given the sheer number of leaks, one would think that something of Superman's would have made an appearance.
On Monday afternoon, something of Superman's did finally leak to the public, but it's doubtful that anyone expected this: new set photos show a protest against Superman's presence on Earth.
It's something movie-goers have never seen, considering Superman has always been on the side of justice (though the subject has been tackled in the comics). While the hero was detained in Man of Steel, there were never any protesters burning effigies of him. That being said, while plot details for Batman v. Superman are scarce, it would make sense that the conclusion of Man of Steel would earn the ire of normal human beings. The finale was incredibly brutal, with firms estimating that trillions of dollars of damage were done to Metropolis and tens of thousands of people died. If a single man could be tied to such an event, it makes a lot of sense that everyday citizens would protest his presence.
The protester leak is hardly the first of its kind from the Batman v. Superman set. This past weekend, the set for Wayne Manor and a Gotham City Police Department vehicle were found, and before that, extensive photos of the new Batmobile were also taken in Detroit. Initially, it seemed there was some effort from the studio to control the leaks by releasing teaser images from the film, but considering how many leaks have happened since, it seems the attempt at control was less than effective.
Story details from Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice have basically been nonexistent, and very little about the production is known. Aside from some basic characters and a general idea of the plot, the public is still largely in the dark about the story of the film. Despite all of the leaks, it seems that, for now, Batman v. Superman's most important secrets are safe.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released in theaters on March 26, 2016.
