'The Evil Within' trailer reminds gamers to treat every bullet as their last

The Evil Within is the third game by Shinji Mikami that belongs to the survival horror genre. It features the character of Sebastian Castellanos, the protagonist.

The game is a survival horror classic. Sebastian Castellanos is assigned to a vacated mental hospital. Being a detective, he is tasked to investigate the slaughtering of dozens of officers by a mysterious force. As the game progresses, Sebastian would unravel a dark tale of human-controlled experimentation. His mission would eventually lead him to Ruvik, a troubled young scientist with a twisted mind.

One part of the game shows Sebastian being ambushed and knocked unconscious after witnessing the slaughter of his fellow officers. When he gained consciousness, he finds himself trapped in a world where evil creatures thrive among the dead. Faced with an unknown level of terror and the will to survive, Sebastian goes on a horrific journey in order to find out the evil force that seems to have taken over everything that he encounters.

Mikami is known to create characters that are strong yet vulnerable at the same time. These characters are not the usual gung-ho meatheads. They are unsure, afraid and low on ammunition.

"The horror experience is most scary when the player really isn't sure whether their character is going to live or die -- death and survival need to be on a constant see-saw. If there's a situation where you're not 100 percent sure that you can avoid or defeat the enemies, if you feel maybe there's a chance you'll make it -- that's where horror lies. Creating that situation is vital. Also, I don't want to just stand there shooting dozens of enemies," said Mikami.

Along with the game, a new video from Bethesda called "Every Last Bullet" is made. The video teaches the basics of surviving and preparing for the dangers that Sebastian will face. Users can also pre-order the Fighting Chance Pack, which features a handful of useful items that can help them escape from death. The pack would include a green gel, medical kit, double barrel shotgun and three shells, a poison agony bolt and an incendiary agony bolt.

The Evil Within is set for release in Europe and North America on Oct. 14. The game will be available on various platforms such as Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and the PC.
