Given how there are hundreds upon hundreds of Pokémon, it only makes sense that there are a few stinkers in the bunch. From ice cream cone creatures to living garbage, the Pokémon franchise is no stranger to weird monsters that nobody really wants in their collection.
Its no different with the upcoming Pokémon Sun and Moon. The newest installment in the series will add dozens more Pokémon for players to capture when it arrives later this year, and Nintendo is still in the process of revealing each new creature to players. Now, fans have their first look at seven of the new Pokémon in action, and, well, they look pretty goofy, in all honesty.
Not all of them look that way, mind you. Some of the new Pokémon do manage to look cool. Take Tapu Koko, for example. An electric/fairy type, the creature's design pulls from the game's fictional Hawaii setting and manages to look like a great addition to players' Pokémon collections.
There's also Vikavolt, an awesome-looking electric/bug type Pokémon. That's one badass beetle. Check Tapu Koko and Vikavolt out below.
Pretty cool, right? The only issue is that Vikavolt evolves from this:
That's Charjabug, and yes, it looks like a train (or a bus?). Its name is also Charjabug, which is just, whatever. Charjabug is far from the worst offender, however. There's also Bruxish, a psychic and water-type Pokémon that looks like a fusion of Jinx and a fish. In case you forgot, Jinx is kind of terrifying-looking. Putting that face (and those psychic powers) on a fish? Nightmare fuel.
Some of the other additions are less terrible, but nothing to write home about. There's Cutiefly, a bug and fairy type.
Also, there's Togedemaru, an electric and steel type.
Last but not least is Drampa, a normal and dragon type that is basically Falkor the dragon from The Neverending Story.
It could be worse, of course, but here's hoping the next wave of Pokémon reveals makes a more powerful first impression. You can check out the game's new starter Pokémon here. Pokemon Sun and Moon release on Nov. 18.
