There is nothing quite like Twitter. It's become the easiest, most popular way for celebrities to reach out to their fans, and for fans to reach out and interact with their favorite celebrities. Athletes, actors, rock stars: everyone has a Twitter, and that basically means that anyone can interact with anybody. While it sounds amazing, it doesn't always work out for the best.
Donald Trump is no stranger to Twitter. The celebrity/businessman uses the site on a regular basis, whether it's to comment on politics or promote a new product. Earlier, in what seemed like a good PR move, Trump retweeted this image from an enthusiastic fan:
It's a nice sentiment, except for the fact that the two people in the photo are serial killers.
Fred and Rosemary West were responsible for a string of sexual assaults and murders during the 1970's and '80s. After 11 victims, the pair was tried in the early '90s, though Fred West hung himself in his cell before he was convicted. Rosemary West is still currently in prison.
The original retweet from Trump has since been deleted. Stunts like this are somewhat common on Twitter, though Mr. Trump certainly has a unique history with things like this. It seems that Mr. Trump is the butt of the joke rather often, and given his staunchly conservative political views and tendency to outright insult those who disagree, it was really only a matter of time before something on this scale happened.
It goes without saying that Mr. Trump will probably be a bit more cautious when taking fan requests in the future.
