Yahoo Mail App Update Brings Extra Widget, Improved Document Previews And More

Yahoo Mail might seem an antiquated solution by now, but the service is still dependable and still has a loyal number of users.

Only in the Google Play Store, the software scored more than a hundred million downloads, which leads us to believe that some of you still use your first email address.

Luckily for this classic-loving bunch, Yahoo makes sure to keep its app updated and bug-free. In May, the company released an important update and it recently rolled out a new one, thus, bringing Yahoo Mail app to version 5.6. The previous update for the Yahoo Mail app went live on May 20.

Yahoo saves time for its users and does not mention the slew of fixes and performance tweaks that are integral to any update. Instead, the company underlines the new features for Android in a list that you may check out below.

Stationery

Yahoo acknowledges how important it is for users to write a fun, thoughtful email, regardless if you are crafting it on your phone or computer. Thanks to Paperless Post, the Android version of the app received Stationery. The database allows you to add special themes to the email — turning a simple email into a neat birthday card that even Hallmark would envy.

Document Preview

The feature optimizes the space and data used while previewing your attachments. What is more, larger files can be seen on your phone or tablet without downloading their full extent.

Home Screen Widgets

The company supplemented the number of widgets by one, which will display the number of unread messages for your mailboxes and accounts.

Disable Swiping

Yahoo listens to the consistent feedback it receives from its users, so it removed the swipe to delete capability. This means that users can no longer accidentally delete emails by swiping on their phones or tablets.

Spacing

Another slice of feedback was targeted at how the inbox is spaced. This made Yahoo add more spacing options, giving users a wide array of choices pertaining to how their inbox is bundled up. Some might prefer the super-dense (zero avatars, zero message snippets), while others will take a liking to the super-expanded (a few lines of message snippet).

Update To Themes

Yahoo notes that the dark gray theme got revamped to be extra high contrast.

Apple device owners who still use Yahoo Mail app were not left behind, as the Yahoo Mail app for iOS received a few new features, as well.

Undo Send

Some users take great pride in sending perfectly written emails and sending one with a typo included can cause sleepless nights. Such concerns are a thing of the past, as iOS users can now take back an email immediately after sending it. An "undo" option appears at the bottom of your inbox feed for 3 seconds after pressing "send."

Contact Improvements

Yahoo details the information displayed when you search for someone's email address. The new feature opens up the picture of the person, the phone number and history of email.

New Animations

As Yahoo points out in a blog post, users should enjoy the new "animated Star button and wiggling Trashcan."
