The debut trailer for the long-awaited strategy game, Civilization VI, was revealed last month. The next entry in the franchise will look to once again capture the interest of gamers who have made the Civilization games among the most popular strategy titles of all time.
However, from watching the trailer, gamers were not able to find out details for the upcoming game. That is because the trailer focused on history and real-world events, which sets the tone for the title but does not reveal information on aspects such as gameplay.
Firaxis Games showcased Civilization VI at the recently concluded E3 though, which revealed more details for the title.
Cities And Districts
Among the major changes coming to the game is how players will be able to build their cities. In previous Civilization games, cities occupied single tiles on the map, and any improvements to be made or new buildings for a city will just be added within the tile. In Civilization VI, a single city could now occupy several spots on the map, which instead of tiles will now be filled with hexagons.
The changes lend to a new district system, which will allow players to assign a certain district type to a hex, such as a market district, a military district and so on. Buildings will now be appearing on the district where they would belong.
"We wanted every map, every location to be a puzzle," said Dennis Shirk, a senior producer for Civilization VI, who added that placing certain districts adjacent to topographical characteristics such as jungles and mountains will lead to bonuses.
According to Shirk, the district system will be changing how gamers play Civilization VI, with the need to play a few times to master the new system.
World Domination
Civilization games have always been about world domination though, and that does not change with Civilization VI. Gamers can still choose to go the military route, conquering the rest of the world through the development of the most powerful weapons technology, or the peaceful route, increasing the player's influence on all other countries through treaties and political discourse.
AI opponents in Civilization VI are even more intelligent though, which means that players should not let their guard down, or else they would be the ones facing the wrong end of world domination.
Release Date
Gamers excited to start spending near-countless hours on Civilization VI will fortunately not have to wait long. The game is scheduled to be released on Oct. 21 for the PC.
