A reliable source has confirmed that Samsung will skip the Galaxy Note 6 moniker for Galaxy Note 7. The tipster also revealed it will include a 5.7-inch display, 12 megapixel DualPixel camera, iris scanner, 64 GB of internal storage and more.
With Samsung's rumored Unpacked event scheduled for Aug. 2 quickly approaching, you can bet we're going to hear more details on what the company has in store for its next-generation Galaxy Note.
Reports have already surfaced claiming that Samsung has opted to release the Galaxy Note 5 successor with a dual-edge curved display and has no plans to launch the device with a flat screen. The handset is also expected to feature an advanced iris scanner, which will be among its most notable features.
Now, a new report from Evan Blass backs up previous claims on the specs of the device and also confirms that Samsung will skip the Galaxy Note 6 name and officially name the smartphone Galaxy Note 7 in order to match the number sequence with its current Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
According to the tipster, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will ship with a spacious 5.7-inch 2560 by 1440 Quad HD Super AMOLED display, and like the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, it will be IP68-certified waterproof and dust-resistant. Samsung will reportedly bump up the internal storage for the base model by including 64 GB, and users will be able to increase that via its microSD expansion slot, which was left off of last year's Galaxy Note 5.
The Note 7's camera capabilities will reportedly consist of a 12 megapixel DualPixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front-facing camera for video chat and selfies. The source also confirmed that the phablet will include an iris scanner that will allow users to unlock the device and authorize mobile payments by simply staring at the screen.
Samsung will reportedly offer the Galaxy Note 7 in three color options upon its release. Users will have a choice between black, silver or blue. The smartphone is expected to ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and updated version of Samsung's Android skin, TouchWiz.
The Note 7 will also include a very generous 6 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor and large non-removable 4,000 mAh battery with fast charging support. The Note 7 will be the first Samsung smartphone to ditch micro USB for a USB Type-C port.
As always, we'll keep you up to date with any new details regarding the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
