2017 Chevrolet Volt Review Roundup: What Experts Like And Dislike About This Green Car

The 2017 Chevrolet Volt is a hybrid car made by General Motors and the company started delivering the car earlier this year.

Here are what reviewers have to say about GM's green car.

Electric vehicles do not make a lot of noise in comparison to traditional gasoline cars. The 2017 Chevrolet Volt is powerful but still silent.

"My first day with the 2017 Chevy Volt convinced me this is a car I could live with. Sure it's "green," but it's also a darn good car. It is nearly silent but powerful. It tracks and steers accurately. It rides comfortably. I purposely drove it over some manhole covers that upset the suspension in my Honda, but the Volt handled them with aplomb," says Steve Hanley of Clean Technica.

The Chevrolet car has not been rated by NHTSA or IIHS. Chevrolet has improved the outward vision of the car but other cars in the similar category have better outward view.

"The old Volt's notorious blind spot at the base of the windshield pillars has been reduced, but that triangle is still much larger than in other compact cars — Honda and Subaru are exemplary in the segment. Volt engineers told us the steep angle of the windshield requires a larger structural support to withstand roof-crush tests," says John Voelcker of The Car Connection.

The 2017 Chevrolet Volt offers more gas-free driving in comparison to its rivals.

"Every morning when you wake up with the 2017 Chevy Volt, you will have 53 real miles of EV usage. If you have a huge commute (over 25 miles), you can opt to charge at work and drive 53 miles of pure electric back. Some people will never finish the tank of gas that comes with their new Chevy Volt," says Seth Weintraub of Electrek.

Comfort-wise, the 2017 Chevy Volt's back seats are quite tight.

"Front seat comfort is fine, but the lack of a power-adjustable driver seat is a drawback, and the seat bottoms may be too short for some physiques. The new car does accommodate three across in back, unlike the original four-seater, but the battery pack still takes up space underneath, so it's more of an emergency-use perch than a truly useful seat," says Edmunds.com.

Some reviewers are pleased with the overall performance of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt.

"From design to engineering, the Chevy Volt is a decidedly unique entry on the green-car front, combining all-electric propulsion with plug-in hybrid capability, effectively eliminating any range anxiety issues. In addition to its high-mileage attributes, this electric/hybrid vehicle offers a full suite of technology and safety features. It also touts a well-crafted interior with good-quality materials and impressive fit and finish," says Jessica Shea Choksey of Autotrader.

The starting price tag of the 2017 Chevrolet Volt is $33,220, excluding tax credit of $7,500.
