Singer Christina Grimmie, who passed away after being shot in Orlando, was a notorious fan of the Legend of Zelda franchise.
With her love for the game in mind, the former The Voice contestant's fans have launched petitions for Nintendo to include a tribute to the fallen artist in the next Zelda title.
The two petitions, which are still ongoing on Change.org, are hoping that Nintendo would name a character in the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, expected to be released next year, after Grimmie. One petition, which looks to have a non-playable character named after the singer, has accumulated almost 60,000 supporters, while the second one, which requests to have an elf named as Grimmie, has collected nearly 18,000 signatures.
"Hopefully she is in a better place now, but whether a NPC or mentioned in an Easter egg, it would be a beautiful act to let her be memorialized in the universe she always cherished," the first petition wrote.
"Christina tweeted a while ago that if she died she would like to come back as an elf," the second petition mentioned, adding that Grimmie would make for a great name for an elf.
Grimmie, whose username on YouTube was ZeldaxLove64, released a video on the website back in 2010 where she poses in front of Legend of Zelda and other video game posters while adding music from Zelda into modern songs by artists such as Rihanna and Eminem. In addition to Legend of Zelda, Grimmie was a fan of several video game franchises by Nintendo, including Super Mario, Super Smash Brothers, EarthBound and Pokemon.
Nintendo has responded to the petitions in a statement sent to Time, stating that the company is aware of the massive support for Grimmie and the ongoing petitions. Nintendo, however, understandably and wisely, said that it will not be making any content or creative decisions as the world continues to mourn for Grimmie's death.
After a concert, a man went up to Grimmie and shot the singer. Grimmie's brother was able to tackle the shooter, but the man shot himself in the scuffle and also died. Grimmie was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive the ordeal.
Grimmie had a bright career ahead of her after finishing in third place in the sixth season of The Voice in 2014 in the team of Maroon 5's Adam Levine. She had been working with Island Records to release her first major album in fall.
