It looks like the cries of fans have finally been heard by the folks at EA and DICE: it appears that Star Wars Battlefront will be getting an offline mode in the near future.
A YouTube video and subsequent thread on Reddit claims to show a "hidden menu" for a mode described as "Instant Action" in the Star Wars Battlefront main menu.
The Instant Action mode appears to be an offline vs. AI version of Star Wars Battlefront's previously online multiplayer-only Walker Assault and Fighter Squadron modes. The creator of the post and video, Uninspired Zebra, doesn't go into any details as to how to access the supposedly hidden Instant Action menu.
Star Wars Battlefront does technically already have a few offline options as it is, even though there isn't much to them. Players can play various scenarios that serve more as tutorials than an actual game, and there are also solo "survival"-like modes. However, this is the first time the game's large-scale multiplayer modes would be playable offline against AI opponents.
The inclusion of the mode would bring the game more in line with the original (and wildly-popular) Star Wars Battlefront games, which featured single-player campaigns. Star Wars Battlefront's almost complete lack of single-player options served as one of the main criticisms players cited against the title. With that in mind, it makes sense that DICE would want to right that wrong. Offline multiplayer has previously been teased by DICE during discussions of the future of free updates for Star Wars Battlefront, so it certainly seems like Uninspired Zebra's discovery could be legitimate. As with most things of this nature though, it's best to take this with a pinch of salt for now.
If the mode is the real deal, it only seems a matter of time before it officially arrives. Star Wars Battlefront's Bespin DLC is arriving this week for season pass owners and will go on sale for all other players two weeks later. Might Instant Action arrive with the release of the DLC? It seems a possibility, but for now, fans will have to wait for more information.
