'Overwatch' Hero Spotlight: A Beginner’s Guide To Pharah

In Overwatch, heroes come from all over the place, and Pharah is one of those that have been one of the good guys since the beginning.

Her Story

Real name Fareeha Amari, Pharah is committed to protecting the innocent, a desire fostered by the very blood running in her veins as she comes from a long line of decorated soldiers. Her mother was a part of Overwatch and she wanted nothing more than to follow in her footsteps, enlisting in the Egyptian army and rising up through the racks to do so. Unfortunately, the organization was disbanded before Pharah could join.

She came to be known as Pharah as that's her call sign while working under Helix Security International to protect an artificial intelligence research facility in Giza. She trained to use an experimental combat suit called the Raptora Mark VI, which was designed to dole out devastating firepower complemented by rapid agility. Pharah is dejected that Overwatch is no more, but she still desires to fight the good fight to make a difference in the world.

Her Abilities

Rocket Launcher - Her primary weapon, it launches rockets capable of dealing significant damage in a wide area. It doesn't have an alternate firing mode.

Jump Jet - Thrusters in the Raptora Mark VI propel Pharah, allowing her to reach high areas in the field. This ability also lets Phara hover, letting her easily scale two points.

Concussive Blast - A wrist rocket knocks back enemies struck. It doesn't kill, but can clear an area effectively.

Barrage - A continuous rain of mini-rockets is directed to an enemy team, eliminating multiple targets at once.

Heroes She Is Weak Against

Soldier: 76 - A solid counter to Pharah, Soldier: 76 can take her out quickly with his Heavy Pulse Rifle.

Widowmaker - Flight offers many advantages to Pharah but it does make her move slowly, making her an easy target for Widowmaker.

Heroes She Is Strong Against

Reaper - Guns do poorly against flying targets and his wraith form can be timed.

Junkrat - Grenades are no better than guns at taking out flying targets.

Mei - As long as Pharah doesn't get hit by an icicle blast from her Endothermic Blaster, there's little Mei can do against a rain of rockets because she can't shield herself from flying targets.

Zarya - Her limited mobility and range makes her an easy target for Pharah and Pharah's Barrage can burn through Zarya's extra shield.

Symmetra - Long-range, mobile heroes like Pharah are the best counters against Symmetra because she can't do anything to take them down.

Tips

1. Pharah's Ultimate, Barrage, is one of the best in Overwatch. It is great for decimating groups inside capture points or those huddling around payloads.

2. Use Concussive Blast to knock off enemies on ledges or force them out of position, like a healer in hiding.

3. Be mindful when Pharah is in flight because it makes her move slower, which makes her a prime target for snipers and hitscan bullets.

4. Pharah can fire six rockets on the ground before she has to reload. Watch out for enemies targeting the moment she stops firing.

5. Use Pharah to go around areas other members of the team can't, like jumping off a portion of the map, going under something and flying across a gap before boosting up to rejoin the battle.
