We've been hearing for months that in addition to the updated Stormtrooper design (they're more advanced after 30 years), Star Wars: Episode VII may feature a new variant that fans have been calling "Chrome Troopers." They're so named because their design resembles the new Stormtrooper look, but instead of the classic plastic white appearance, their armor is shiny chrome.
The problem is, there's been no spy pics or other evidence to prove the Chrome Troopers' existence. Until now.
Indie Revolver seems to have someone on the inside of the Disney/Lucasfilm production who's willing to feed them breadcrumbs from time to time. The pop culture blog previously posted exclusive leaks of concept art for Han Solo's look in Episode VII and the aforementioned new Stormtrooper design. Now it's scored again with an image of the Chrome Troopers. And here it is.
Since the quality of the image is rather low, it's unknown if this is an actual photo from the set or perhaps a piece of detailed concept art. Either way, aside from the helmet, it's interesting to note that the Chrome Trooper design features torso armor that includes a strikingly high collar, which is also chrome in appearance.
In the original article, Indie Revolver goes on to speculate about the role of the Chrome Troopers in the Star Wars universe. Since posting the first image, IR has also gotten its hands on a second, and this one is identified as concept art. It features the same design for the Chrome Trooper, only without the helmet.
These guys certainly look like you don't want to mess with them, don't you think?
