Apple announced the release of iOS 8.0.2 Thursday night to fix bugs from the recent update made to its iOS 8 software. The software fix comes a day after the botched software update left some without service and other bugs.
Launched on September 17, the iOS 8 had complaints of battery drain, a slow Safari browser, and service issues. Instead of fixing these problems, iOS 8.0.1 added on more problems.
Apple customers who upgraded to iOS 8.0.1 on Wednesday reported Wi-Fi connectivity issues, as well as problems with the Touch ID, the security feature that unlocks the phone with the user's fingerprint
Within hours, Apple pulled the update and promised to fix the bugs. The company also issued instructions on how to downgrade the software.
"iOS 8.0.2 is now available for users, it fixes an issue that affected iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who downloaded iOS 8.0.1, and includes improvements and bug fixes originally in iOS 8.0.1," the company said. "We apologize for inconveniencing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who were impacted by the bug in iOS 8.0.1."
Apple users can download the most recent update through iTunes or on the iOS device itself.
The software update is also believed to have fixed other bugs such as issues with HealthKit, photos, ringtones and third-party keyboards. But some users based in Australia are saying on a Reddit thread that iOS 8.0.2 still has bugs. According to them, Wi-Fi connectivity and Touch ID malfunctions are still unfixed.
"Just updated to 8.0.2, and I seem to have the no wifi problem. Is there a fix for this," one user writes. "No service and broken TouchID here after 8.0.2 direct from 8.0.0. In-phone upgrade (no iTunes)," writes another.
But the thread could just include some isolated instances. Perhaps the fix to the mobile operating system might ease some of the horribl PR Apple has of late. Stock prices suffered after users reported that the iPhone 6 Plus can bend when stored in a pocket. And there is still some ill-feelings towards the whole U2 controversy.
