Amazon announced the launch of #AmazonWishList just before the start of the holiday shopping season. The feature allows users to add items to their Amazon Wish List while browsing through Twitter.
If a user sees a tweet from anybody, be it a friend, a company, or a celebrity, that contains a link to the page of a specific product on Amazon.com, the product can be added to the user's Amazon Wish List by adding the #AmazonWishList hashtag to a reply on the tweet.
"Twitter offers Amazon customers a great environment for inspiration and discovery," said Amazon's Director of Social, John Yurcisin.
"#AmazonWishList makes it easy for people to quickly add holiday gifts, décor or entertaining items tweeted by interesting people, friends, or brands on Twitter to their Amazon Wish List, allowing customers to simply save items to their Wish List and keep on Tweeting," Yurcisin adds.
To begin using the feature, Amazon customers should first connect their account on the online retailer to their account on Twitter. Users can do so by inputting the required information under the Social Settings of their Amazon accounts.
Users, however, will have to make sure that their Twitter accounts are not protected; a setting that makes only the user's followers able to see the user's tweets. The user's Twitter account should be made public so that the replies containing the #AmazonWishList hashtag made by the user will be added to the Amazon Wish List.
Amazon clarified that using the feature to add products to personal Amazon Wish List does not automatically make a user purchase the product. The product is only included in the Amazon Wish List, which can be viewed and edited any time.
Amazon also said that the feature will not only work on physical products, but for digital products as well such as apps and eBooks. These digital items will be added to the user's Amazon Wish List just like any physical product. The Amazon Wish List will also work with Amazon Instant Video and Prime Instant Video content. However, instead of being added to the Amazon Wish List when replied to on Twitter using the hashtag, the content will be added to the user's Amazon Watchlist.
The #AmazonWishList feature is an offshoot of the #AmazonCart feature that Amazon launched last May. The previous feature works similar to how the new feature does except that instead of adding the product to the Amazon Wish List, it adds the product to the user's Amazon Cart, only awaiting confirmation from the user to proceed with the purchase.
