It's no secret that the upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro will be nearly identical to Apple's current iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in terms of design. A new video shows how third party iPhone 7 cases fit on the iPhone 6s, while pointing out differences and similarities.
Motorola just unveiled its 2016 flagship smartphones, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. The handsets will actually launch as exclusives on Verizon's network this summer under the "Droid" series and be named Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Force Droid, respectively. International and unlocked variants will go on sale in the fall, according to Motorola.
While Apple has been taking the spotlight for preparing to release an iPhone without the standard 3.5-millimeter headphone port, Motorola can claim bragging rights on bringing a smartphone to market without a headphone jack. The removal of the port allowed Motorola to make the smartphones ultra-thin, with the Moto Z measuring 5.19 millimeters and the Moto Z Force at 6.99 millimeters.
While Apple is also expected to ship the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro without a standard headphone port, that does not mean iPhone fans should expect a noticeably thinner device than the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
MacRumors has created a video that takes a look at a third party iPhone 7 case, which are already being manufactured and sold, and shows how it compares to the iPhone 6s. In the video, you can clearly see the iPhone 6s almost fits perfectly into the case, as even the volume buttons, mute, and power button fall directly into place.
The iPhone 7's differences become noticeable when checking out the cutout for the smartphone's rear camera, which is lower and wider than that of the iPhone 6s. The removal of the standard headphone port is confirmed on the bottom of the case, which features cutouts for two speakers, in addition to a cutout for the Lightning port, which will serve to charge, transfer data, and output audio on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro.
It will be interesting to see how Apple communicates the removal of the 3.5-millimeter headphone port not having an impact on the size of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus/Pro, as Motorola uses the removal to highlight its ability to create and advertise the Moto Z as "world's thinnest premium smartphone." The Moto Z is 5.19 millimeters while the iPhone 6s is 7.1 millimeters.
