Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Getting Android Marshmallow Software Update: Rolling Out Now

Samsung Galaxy Note Edge owners on Verizon Wireless are in for a treat, with the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow software update rolling out now.

The update brings the software version to VRU2CPD1 and includes all of the cool tricks Marshmallow has to offer, aiming to enhance performance and the overall experience.

In addition to the usual Marshmallow perks, such as Doze, Google Now on Tap, individual app permissions and more, the new software version also includes some TouchWiz improvements. Android for Work, Ultra-High-Quality Radio, and a fresh design are also in the mix.

The new rollout for the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge comes roughly three weeks after users in Europe started receiving Android 6.0.1 on their handsets. The release is virtually identical to Verizon's recent Galaxy Note 4 update.

In terms of Marshmallow goodies, here are the main highlights:

Google Now on Tap is designed to anticipate the information you may need at a certain point based on what's on your screen. If you're reading about a new place, for instance, a simple tap will display more information such as address, map view, contact information, reviews and others such.

Doze is designed to optimize battery performance so it can prolong the device's battery life. To achieve this, it automatically puts apps into a sleep state when you're not using your device, ensuring they don't drain the battery by running in the background.

Individual app permissions, meanwhile, let you choose what you want to share with an app and when. For instance, you may give Facebook access to your contacts and camera, but not your location and microphone. You can also turn permissions on or off at any time, so you have more control on what an app can access.

As always, it's recommended to have at least 50 percent battery life before proceeding with the update so the whole process goes smoothly and without interruptions. It's also best to connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network to avoid incurring additional costs on cellular.

The update is rolling out now, but it's reaching devices in stages. This means that some users may not see it just yet, but there's always the option to manually check for its availability. If you have yet to receive the update notification, access the Settings menu on your device, head over to the About section and tap Software Update to check whether a new update is available. If it's ready for download, simply follow the on-screen instructions to install the new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
