Android users who like tweaking with their software are in for some good news, as Paranoid Android is back in full force.
Back in the day, when Android ROMs were just starting to gain ground, the two forces ruling the scene were Paranoid Android and CyanogenMod. Paranoid Android released its first custom ROM back in 2012 and offered several treats after that, but it's been rather absent for some time now.
The last ROM Paranoid Android released was back in July 2015, when the team delivered custom Lollipop ROMs for Nexus devices. With nearly a year with no news from the team, the general belief was that Paranoid Android was pretty much done. Even a Paranoid Android developer said that it was "dead," which left fans with little hope of a comeback.
With Paranoid Android out of the picture, CyanogenMod was able to gain more ground and establish itself as the top custom firmware provider for a slew of popular smartphones.
Nevertheless, Paranoid Android is now back and more determined than ever. With a new team and new treats, it's now ready to rock the scene once again.
"We are launching brand spanking fresh," Paranoid Android announced in a new post on its Google+ page. "All new features. New team members. New everything and we have made sure that everything that we are releasing has been polished to our best."
When it comes to new ROM features, the custom Quick Settings are definitely among the top highlights. Users will be able to edit and customize their settings tiles as they wish, which is a great plus.
Paranoid Android is also offering floating windows support for all apps, enabling users to quickly switch between floating windows and full-screen mode with no hassle.
The package also includes support for the CM Theme engine, allowing users to spice up their phone with a sleek new user interface theme.
The new Paranoid Android ROM will play nice with a number of popular devices, including the Nexus lineup, the Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tab Compact, Z2 and Z2 Tab, the OnePlus One, 2 and X, the Oppo Find 5, 7, 7a and N1. More devices may join the list in the future, but no information is available at this point.
