Fans still don't know too many details about Zack Snyder's upcoming Justice League film, but one fact is now abundantly clear: Commissioner Jim Gordon is going to be ripped as hell.
The iconic police commissioner of Gotham City who regularly teams up with Batman will be played by J.K. Simmons in Snyder's film, and Simmons is looking seriously buff in new images of the actor training for the part.
His trainer is former marine Aaron Williamson, who's worked with such muscular stars as Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson in the past. Images from Williamson's Instagram account show a bicep-bulging Simmons lifting all kinds of weights, veins almost bursting from his arms. Williamson's photo captions include, "Saturday morning, 61 years old & making the young generation jealous. This is what dedication looks like" and "Every time we train together I forget he's 61 years old. So much respect for this guy."
However, the real question still remains: why? Why is Simmons working out in order to look this way for his film role? Traditionally, Gordon has always been an in-shape character, but rarely has he looked anything like this. Gordon is, oftentimes in the comic, a redhead sporting a killer mustache. Looks like Simmons is substituting Gordon's 'stache for a full-blown beard.
It's still unknown just how large of a role Simmons will have in the movie. If Gordon's Justice League role is anything like Alfred's in Batman v Superman (played by Jeremy Irons), fans might only see the character in a handful of scenes at most.
Of course, it's possible Gordon could play a much bigger part. Perhaps his role in Justice League will be much more physical than fans of the character are used to seeing. Will he be fighting in Justice League? Will he appear shirtless? That, if nothing else, would help to explain why Simmons looks to be in the best shape of his life. Perhaps Commissioner Gordon fights Darkseid all alone using nothing but his bare hands. Until more details are revealed, fans can only continue to speculate as to why the man is now so buff.
Justice League is slated to hit theaters Nov. 17, 2017.
