The former Teen Titans, now simply known as the Titans, are getting a brand new look for DC Comics' Rebirth event.
The company recently unveiled character designs for the Titan: Rebirth series that will premiere this month. These designs include updated looks for Wally West, Donna Troy, Nightwing, Arsenal, Omen and Tempest.
The design for Wally West, though, labels him as "Flash," perhaps suggesting that he's no longer Kid Flash, which makes sense when readers consider the events that occurred in Rebirth #1.
The details on the sketches are also pretty interesting, right down to the lightning bolts on Wally's costume and the silver collar worn by Donna Troy. These new designs are also quite a departure from the characters' looks in DC's the New 52.
Here's what the Titans look like now:
With Wally returning to the DC universe in Rebirth #1, it's obvious that he will be a central figure in what's going on with the new Rebirth story arc, especially now that he knows that something is wrong and that someone manipulated events in their world. The first issue of Titans: Rebirth will work from there, as well as follow events from Titans Hunt, with Wally being joined by Bumblebee, Nightwing, Donna Troy, Gnarrk, Hawk, Dove, Arsenal, Tempest and Herald.
"Titans Rebirth is all about the return of Wally," writer Dan Abnett said to Newsarama. "There are obviously going to be huge ramifications, because Wally is so important to Titans history."
The comic will see Wally continuing to bring warnings to the world that something is wrong as he and the other superheroes in the DC comics universe search for the mystery behind what happened to them.
The idea is to reset the DC universe to pre-New 52, but without ignoring what happened in the decade that the New 52 created. In the new Rebirth universe, the past 10 years happened, but something was wrong about it.
"What happened in Titans Hunt was, we accounted for how they could be a team where they apparently didn't have that continuity in the past," Abnett said. "But Titans, as a book, begins with the team assembled, knowing that they were once a team, knowing that they were once friends, but essentially having no memory of it, and realizing that lack of memory is a big problem."
Titans Rebirth #1 hits comic book stores and online on June 15.
