Spoilers for Game of Thrones Season 6 Below! Don't Read if You Aren't Caught Up
Recruitment efforts aren't going so hot for Jon Snow and Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones. Despite their best efforts, the two could scarcely recruit more than a few hundred additional men from across the North to take back Winterfell from the Boltons.
Turns out the Stark name doesn't mean what it once did. The Stark army, which largely consists of Wildlings, is still vastly outnumbered by the Boltons.
Jon feels they have no choice but to fight and hope for the best, but Sansa has an ace up her sleeve. During the latest episode of the show, viewers get to see Sansa writing and then sending a letter. Who exactly that letter is for, and what is says is a mystery the show is saving for later.
Too bad fans have already figured it out.
One Reddit user zoomed in on the oh-so-brief image of the letter shown during the episode, flipped it, analyzed it and came up with the following results:
Legible words are traced in black, while the words displayed in red are ones that are barely legible. In those cases, CreepyPancakes has made a few educated guesses as to what the words could be based on the words surrounding them. Words with question marks above them indicate that it might not be the exact word used in the letter but should be fairly close.
Even knowing the contents of the letter, one mystery remains: who is the letter for? Most fans would assume Petyr Baelish, aka Littlefinger. He pledged to help Sansa by having the army of the Vale come to her aid earlier in season six, only for Sansa to send him away. Is this letter for him, or might it be for the Lord of the Vale himself, the young Robin Arryn? Given Sansa's distaste for Littlefinger after he arranged a marriage for her with Ramsay Bolton, it seems possible she may attempt to bypass Baelish, despite having obviously learned a thing or two from the master of manipulation.
With only three episodes left in this season, fans will have their answer soon. It seems certain the knights of the Vale will ride to Jon and Sansa's aid, turning the tide of battle. All that remains to be seen is at what cost it will occur.
