Samsung has taken the wraps off of its more rugged variant of its flagship Galaxy S7 smartphone. The company has partnered with AT&T exclusively on the Galaxy S7 Active, which will go on sale beginning June 10.
It was assumed that AT&T and Samsung would launch a successor to last year's Galaxy S6 Active, and like clockwork, the Galaxy S7 Active began to make headlines when it was revealed in March that AT&T was testing an unannounced smartphone on its network.
The first image of the camouflage-themed smartphone popped up in May and confirmed that it would be true to its "Active" name and swap out the Galaxy S7's more delicate metal and glass design for a rugged plastic body and shock-resistant rubber bumper surrounding the device.
A few days later, a smartphone believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S7 Active made an appearance on GFXBench, where its main spec details were leaked, including a 5.5-inch 2560 by 144 quad-HD display.
The reported size of the Galaxy S7 Active's display was questionable, since the standard Galaxy S7 sported a 5.1-inch display and the phablet-sized Galaxy S7 Edge+ boasted a 5.5-inch screen.
There should be no more confusion as to what we can expect in the Galaxy S7 Active, as Samsung and AT&T have made the smartphone official. The carrier posted the following on its site:
"AT&T and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. are bringing customers the toughest Galaxy S device for the fourth summer in a row. The water- and shatter-resistant Samsung Galaxy S7 Active is available exclusively at AT&T. Beginning on Friday, June 10, you can purchase the Galaxy S7 Active at https://www.att.com/galaxys7active or at AT&T stores in Sandy Gold, Titanium Gray, and Camo Green. Purchase the new Samsung Galaxy S7 Active on AT&T Next® at $26.50 for 30 months or AT&T Next Every YearSM at $33.13 a month for 24 months when you have eligible service."
The AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Active features a shatter-resistant build, 5.1-inch 2560 by 1440 quad-HD display, Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM and same 12 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front-facing shooter setup as the Galaxy S7. It will include 32 GB of internal storage, microSD expansion slot and a large 4,000 mAh battery. AT&T will offer it in choices of Sandy Gold, Camo Green and Titanium Gray colors.
