Destiny is a massive game. Some have complained that there's not enough to do within the game's world to make the experience fun, but there's no doubting that the worlds Bungie has created are on an absolutely massive scale. Players can conquer half the solar system after all, so making sure that the worlds felt immense and teeming with secrets to discover was one of Bungie's primary design goals, and the team definitely succeeded.
It's obvious that Destiny players still have a lot to discover. There are so many tiny nooks and crannies throughout Destiny, it's impossible to say if the entire game has been mapped out yet. The community is doing its best to do so, and it seems that a pair of fans may have stumbled onto something that Bungie didn't necessarily want players to see.
Two players, David Helberg and Jared Johnson, were able to access a massive, unfinished area by taking advantage of a glitch in one of the game's walls. By squeezing through a gap in the wall, Helberg and Johnson uncovered an entirely new area in the game: a massive playable area of rock and concrete floating in a bright teal void. While it is possible to go out and explore this new area, don't expect to find much upon arrival; the map is clearly in an unfinished state. The rocks and platforms are indeed solid, meaning that players can get around the map, but there are no enemies, no loot and nothing else to do but explore.
That's not to say there's nothing to see. By navigating to a platform near the bottom of one of the spires, it's possible to enter a fully-rendered cave area. Once entering, the door will close behind players, and continuing into the cave will trigger a loading screen. At this point, the game believes players are located on one of the Mars maps, though the cave comes to an abrupt stop further along.
While there's not much to do in this immense, floating void, it could mean a lot of things for Destiny players. The map features working script, which means that Bungie could intend for players to explore the area in a more finished state somewhere down the line. The team has dedicated itself to releasing more and more content for Destiny; it's quite possible that players simply found it before they were supposed to.
Bungie recently released the "Vault of Glass" raid, extra end-game content for high-level players. The raid takes place in an entirely new area of the game, so it's possible that these floating rock spires are part of a new raid, or possibly other extra content. "Vault of Glass" was also immense in scale, as is the unfinished area, though it's entirely possible that Bungie began work on the area and later scrapped it (developers have been known to leave unfinished work inside games).
Destiny has been growing larger and larger since its release, though few expected it to grow like this. While the unfinished void is certainly a sight to behold, it may end up being very different in the future if Bungie decides to take action. A level this large would mean a lot of work lost if it was deleted, but removing the area entirely is certainly a possibility. If you'd like to explore a giant, unfinished area of Bungie's latest, it would be best to do it sooner rather than later.
