'Pokémon Sun' And 'Moon' Details About New Legendaries, Key Characters Revealed: What We Now Know

The Pokémon Company is back yet again with a brand-new trailer for Pokemon Sun and Moon, and just like the one on May 10, it aims to please.

Last time, we got our first look at three starters, the new Alola region, as well as the all-important release date of Nov. 18 (or 23 in EU). This time around, we get our first look at the two legendary Pokémon - Solgaleo and Lunala - a deeper look at the Alola region, as well as the playable trainer and key NPCs players will encounter throughout their journey.

For many who had been scrounging around for anything and everything Pokémon in the past few months, a lot of the information about Solgaleo and Lunala shouldn't be too surprising. Thanks to their trademarks being uncovered on Twitter, many had already learned the two legendary Pokémon's names as well as what they represent. Later on, we got a look at their design, so many had a chance to hypothesize how they would operate in battle.

Now, thanks to this trailer, not only do fans get to see these two in action for the first time, but they also get to see specific information about the two, such as their types, signature moves and abilities.

First off, the Pokémon Company revealed the types of Solgaleo and Lunala to be Psychic/Steel and Psychic/Ghost respectively. The types themselves aren't anything too impressive, but this marks the second time that the main legendaries of a given generation have shared a primary type (the last time this was seen was in Gen V with Zekrom and Reshiram).

In addition, it was revealed that Solgaleo will have the Full Metal Body ability, which prevents its stats from being lowered by an opponent's moves or abilities, while Lunala will have Shadow Shield, which causes it to receive less damage from an attack when it has full HP.

Oddly enough, the website describes both of these abilities as unique, despite there being two pre-existing abilities - Clear Body and Multiscale - which appear to do the same thing as Full Metal Body and Shadow Shield, respectively. Considering that these two "new" abilities belong to legendary Pokémon, it's possible the effects have a wider range or stronger effect and that fact hasn't been properly conveyed.

Lastly, Solgaleo has a unique move called Sunsteel Strike, which disregards the opponent's ability, while Lunala has one called Moongeist Beam, which does the same. Presumably, since both have the same property, the difference between the two will be their type and attribute.

Whereas the first half of the trailer shows off Pokémon, the latter half shows off the people and trainers that inhabit Alola. We finally get to see the playable trainers as well as some of the customization options players will have when they start the game, as well as some of the key NPCs players will interact with throughout their journey. Such characters include Professor Kukui, who continues the trend of professors being named after trees; Lillie, Kukui's assistant and Hau, your friend and suspected rival.

The trailer finishes by revealing that a Rotom is inside your Pokédex now, allowing it to talk to you. It's a cool feature, albeit somewhat creepy.

So, what's next for Pokémon now that this trailer is out of the way? CoroCoro is supposed to have an "exclusive scoop" in June, but it has also promised something similar since the April issue, so don't hold your breath.
