UniteLoL Is Tinder For 'League Of Legends'

Playing massive multiplayer games can get a little lonely. Fortunately, if you're a League of Legends player, there's now a new way to find friends, a love interest and/or potential teammates.

Meet UniteLoL, which calls itself the "Tinder for League." The app allows players to register and then find other players by location, as well as search for Summoner name, rank and preferred role types. It's not just for dating, though: fans can search for other players near them to make some friends or to just find someone local and in the same time zone to meet up with in-game.

Once a user sees someone that appeals to them, they can message that person. But be warned: all users found can receive messages, which means that spammers, stalkers and other unsavory types might eventually use the app for nefarious reasons. The good news is that users can block other users, though.

League of Legends, like many competitive online games, already has a reputation of being a game with a lot of sexism, racism, harassment and abuse. The game has recently taken steps to combat abusive behavior by giving players an easy way to report abuse and by taking quick action against it. Here's hoping that UniteLoL does something similar, because creating what is essentially a dating site for such a widely played multiplayer competitive game could result in disaster.

"I moved to Australia from California over a year ago now and one of the hardest parts of the move was missing the friends I played LoL with daily," UniteLoL co-creator CaptainFch wrote on Reddit. "I hadn't realized how important these friends were to how much I enjoyed the game and how successful I was in ranked."

The comments on that Reddit thread, though, show some of the problems that the app creators might eventually face, although some players do seem to see the benefit.

For those interested, UniteLoL is only available for iOS devices in the App Store. The creators would like to make an Android version, but have no details on when that could become available.
