The Detroit Lions may have come out on top against the Green Bay Packers Sunday, but they lost one of their key defensive players in the process. Even worse, the injury was self-inflicted.
After a successful tackle, linebacker Stephen Tulloch celebrated by leaping in the air while attempting to perform what looked like a pelvic thrust. But before he could complete the celebration, however, he landed awkwardly, and could be seen reaching down to his knee in pain before falling to the ground. Ouch. You can watch the video of the celebration below.
Official word is that Tulloch injured his ACL during the act and is now on injured reserve. He took to his Instagram account after the game to comment on the injury, captioning the below photo with "9 years 131 straight games. Minor setback for a huge come back. I give everything I have EVERY SUNDAY. I play the game 1 way and that's full speed. I play the game for the guys in this photo, my family. #Lions"
Sport reporters were quick to point out that the whole ordeal was reminiscent of another infamous NFL celebration fail from 2001, involving Bill Gramatica. You can definitely see why it would draw the comparison.
Tulloch, as of his injury, had 20 total tackles for the season, with one sack and two tackles for a loss. He had two tackles against the Packers before his injury forced him to leave the field. It is still unclear when Tulloch will be returning. The Lions are currently 2-1 this season, but without Tulloch who knows how long that winning record will last.
