Samsung smartphones are very popular in the mobile phone space, but many users do not like the TouchWiz user interface (UI). The South Korean company, fortunately, has launched an app that could be an alternative to the Samsung UI.
The TouchWiz UI runs atop an Android operating system and the latest TouchWiz 6.0 comes preloaded with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung has made many improvements to the UI over the last few years, but it has failed to impress many customers. Some Samsung mobile phone users suggest that their handsets become sluggish and slow due to TouchWiz and they want to disable it.
It seems that Samsung is aware of the TouchWiz's lack of popularity and has launched an app called Good Lock, which can be used for customizing the way Samsung phone owners use their Galaxy devices.
"Meet Samsung's Good Lock-an app that not only lets you customize the on-screen look of your Galaxy smartphone, but also alter the way you use your lockscreen and notifications," Samsung says.
The initial version of the app had many issues, but Samsung was swift to release a patch that fixed several bugs in the app.
Good Lock supports device unlocking by Google Voice. The app shows more notifications on the device's locked screen and also adds a Mobile Hotspot button in the Quick Panel.
The app has a feature called Routine, which lets users to customize their lockscreen layout, the App Tray, the Lockscreen Widget, the background colors as well as the clock, so that the screen of the Galaxy handset looks the way a user wants.
With the app, users also have the option to fill the App Tray with desired apps and switch between App Trays whenever they want. For instance, a user can put productivity-related apps in the App Tray during work but switch to entertainment apps during the evening. Users also have the option to assign color schemes to the App Tray to suit their mood.
The Recent feature allows users to view and scan a list of apps that were used recently. This feature allows for quicker transition between apps.
A tool called Effects also lets users adjust the wallpaper, add colors and highlight portions of the wallpaper.
With Quick Settings, users can make fast changes to their mobile phone's setting on the notification panel. Samsung also says it is providing updates twice a week to the app.
Samsung's focus on Good Lock is an indication of the company's future plans about the UI on next-generation smartphones.
Samsung says Good Lock is currently available in the U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, Korea and Singapore. The app is compatible with the Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Active, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S7 handsets that are running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
