Here's How To Bounce Back From All That Food And Booze You Had Celebrating Memorial Day

Three-day weekends signal all sorts of fun and Memorial Day's no exception. Unofficial as it may be, the holiday also heralds the start of summer and that means double the celebration for many people.

Unfortunately, having three days to while away results in many people getting carried away with food and booze. If you're one of many who's had one too many celebrating Memorial Day, here are a few tips to help you bounce back:

1. Drink up.

You may feel too full to gladly chug down some water, but it is necessary to stay hydrated as that helps your body process all the food and booze you just had as well as fight bloating induced by too much gas. Start with drinking a large glass of water before you go to bed and follow that up with a few more the following morning. This will help you flush out excess salts and ease bloating.

2. Get moving.

Lugging around a food baby doesn't exactly inspire exercise, but doing light exercise will help you bounce back. Take a walk around the block to facilitate digestion and stabilize your blood sugar. Aside from walking, you can also do certain yoga poses, like twists specifically designed to help get things moving.

3. Get some sleep.

But not when you're too full! In fact, lying down can make things worse for you, especially if you have heartburn. If you have asthma, your symptoms might also worsen.

Getting some shut-eye helps you bounce back after a binge by limiting what you consume. How? First, you can't eat or drink while you're asleep, after all. Second, you're likelier to successfully practice restraint, meaning you won't be consuming more and, thus, allowing your body to recover.

4. Eat.

Starving yourself is not the way to atone for everything you consumed during the Memorial Day weekend. It might make sense as a way to cancel out all that food and booze you might have had, but skipping meals actually makes you likelier to overeat again.

Do eat when you're hungry and eat clean as much as possible. Remember, you're still recovering so loading up on greasy, salty food, for instance, will not be doing your digestive system any favors.
