Modder Recreates 'Destiny' Raid Using 'DOOM' SnapMap Level Editor

We knew it would come eventually, but we never thought it would come this soon. One ingenious modder has used DOOM's SnapMap level editor to recreate the King's Fall raid from Destiny: The Taken King.

Credit for this piece of work goes to a player named SharkTurd11 who painstakingly recreated the raid in three parts (it's a large raid after all). As of now, the only part that is missing is the battle against Oryx that comes at the raid's climax.

There was clearly a lot of work that went into recreating the King's Fall raid in DOOM. However, even with all that work, there are still quite a few aspects of Bungie's professionally-developed raid that simply can't be replicated using SnapMap's preset structural pieces. For example, the raid has been modified so that one person can complete the dungeon, as opposed to the six it would take before.

Similarly, there are no massive Hive ships to jump across, nor or there are any large biomechanical architecture to deal with. In addition, the explosive goo nodes that spawn during the Golgoroth boss fight have been replaced with Lost Soul enemies.

Even with all those few concessions, the raid is still quite well-made and much of it has been faithfully adapted to the best of SharkTurd11's abilities. For example, the Basilica's symmetrical layout has been recreated, with radiation pools replacing the Annihilator Totems and a Cyber-Mancubus standing in for Golgoroth.

The best part about this mod is that it's fully customizable since it's a custom level. The map can be quite difficult at times, but it's possible to tweak the level to your own liking. Find it too hard? Adjust the difficulty level or add more checkpoints. Find it too easy? Ramp up the difficulty or get rid of the checkpoints entirely. The ball is in your court.

This King's Fall recreation is just the tip of the iceberg, however, as there are plenty of other interesting custom levels and plenty of other maps available to play. Notable maps include a memory game, music maker and even a farming simulator chock-full of bears.

In the meantime, if you want to play the King's Fall recreation then input the following codes:

Part two: B5L6MDGE
Part three: K3YTLLM5
