The top Marvel and DC TV series you need to watch this Fall: No, not Star Wars Rebels

Fall 2014 is the best time for folks who have been waiting patiently for new comic-book TV shows to get involved with. We've seen how powerful the comic-book world is with the success of Marvel and DC on the big screen, but what about the small screen?

We've always had a decent amount of comic-book movies taking over the small screen, but things kicked into full gear after Disney/Marvel took the movie world by storm with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So far, DC is having more success on the small screen, but Marvel is slowly plotting out what to do in hoping to catch up.

To whet your appetite, we're going to take a look at the must watch DC and Marvel TV shows that are coming out this Fall on various cable networks. It's a great time to be a comic-book fan as the competition between Marvel and DC is forcing these entities to churn out TV shows and movies based on popular and not so popular comics.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. [Marvel]

Honestly, there's not much we can say about Marvel when it comes down to TV shows releasing in the fall. Agents of SHIELD is the only Marvel related TV show worth talking about, and please, don't even mention Star Wars Rebels that's an abomination compared Clone Wars.

Agents of SHIELD is coming back in a big way after the exciting climax of the first season. It's not the best comic book TV series by any doubt, but it is watchable at times. Our main problem is that Marvel chose to tie the series too closely with the movies, and it makes for some really terrible episodes at times.

The writers have no freedom to express themselves because they have to wait until a certain movie comes out before bringing the story full circle.

Agents of SHIELD season 2 premiers on Sept. 23, 2014 on ABC.

Gotham [DC]

Gotham is the latest in a line of DC related comic-book properties coming to TV. The story will follow the life of detective James Gordon as he moves from the bottom to become the iconic Commissioner James Gordon. The show will also showcase some of Gotham's most notorious villains in their younger years, along with a young Bruce Wayne, who only recently witnessed the death of his parents.

It is going to be difficult getting Gotham off the ground since Batman is not in it, and the villains are far nowhere ready to begin their life of serious crimes. Still, with the vast amount of lore that is in the Batman and Gotham universe, this series could work if done correctly.

Gotham premiers on Sept. 22, 2014 on Fox.

Arrow [DC]

Arrow is returning for its third season, and we couldn't have been happier. This is the best comic-book TV series available right now, though if it weren't aired on the CW, we have no doubt it could have been a far better show.

According to leading man Stephen Amell, Arrow is slowly creating its version of the Justice League, and we have no reason to not believe the man. Heroes and villains will pop up everywhere in this series as things get more serious. We understand that the Atom will make an appearance, along with the immortal Ra's al Ghul. It is slowly appearing as if Arrow might have an awesome season 3, one that is worth remembering.

Arrow season 3 premiers on Oct. 8, 2014, on The CW.

The Flash [DC]

Honestly, we would have preferred if The Flash was a movie rather than a TV series, but after seeing the first episode after it was leaked a few months ago, we can't help but feel excited. Grant Gustin is so far a decent Barry Allen and Flash, but we're not yet completely convinced.

The series is a spin-off from Arrow, so that means both will share the same universe. Such a move allow for both Arrow and The Flash to team up and take on bad guys when they are unable to do it themselves. And they'll need the help because villains such as Captain Boomerang, Clock King, and Reverse Flash will all show up eventually, and both heroes will need each other to stay alive.

The Flash premiers on Oct. 7, 2014, on The CW

Constantine [DC]

Hellblazer, who reads that comic? That's where Constantine comes from, a man who calls himself a master of the dark arts, and a man who has traveled to hell and back on several occasions. He is doomed for hell whenever he dies as Heaven doesn't want him due to something he did.

The leaked episode was good, we must admit, but the lead female actress in that episode will be changed. Angelica Celaya will take up the mantle as the new female lead; she'll be playing Zed, from the Hellblazer comics.

Constantine premiers on Oct. 24, 2014, on NBC.
